moulay,

MORROCCO

"starboard tack jumping was out of this world"

TREVOR WITHERINGTON
WSC CLIENT

Date: 11-18 MAY 2025

The Place: Moulay is a little village 20km down the coast from bustling town of Essaouira, there isn’t much else there other than amazing wave riding and a chilled Moroccan atmosphere off the water to hep you relax after a good day in the waves. It is the home of the wave sailing superstar Boujmaa Guilloul, who we are teaming up with for this clinic to tap in to his local knowledge about the place and the windsurfing. We will also be based at his centre on all new Starboard/ Severne gear.

Coaching: Coaching will be run this year by Boujamaa Guilloul as Colin is unable to make the dates.  Coaching runs Sunday – Friday, with change over day on Saturday at a cost of 600€ per week.

level: Advanced wave.  The conditons here are best suited to an advanced level sailor, we ask that you are able to comfortably sail a wave board upwind and downwind and have some experience in waves

conditions: The reason Boujmaa got so good is the consistent wind Moulay has to offer.  The trade winds and Atlantic swell that hit the reef in Moulay provide awesome down the line starboard tack wave riding conditions. June and July are the windiest months but relatively the flattest, Moulay gets up to double mast high in the winter months but a more comfortable boom to logo high during summer.

Travel: Flights are no longer running from the UK directly to Essauoira.  You will have to fly to Marrakech and take a 4 hour transfer to Moulay.

the package: We will be staying at the BoujXHouse just 5 minutes walk from the beach with ocean views and the option of half board or full board.  The rooms at the house are big, with a balcony, and will be adapted for couples or 3 person shared rooms.
Half or full board catering is also provided at the house and tasty Moroccan cuisine will be served al fresco!

Prices are as follows:

Kit rental, transfers (shared) & Full board: 620 Euro for the week.

Kit rental, transfers (shared) & Half board: 580 Euro for the week.

*If you are bringing your own kit the cost reduces by 240 Euro, storage is free at the house or 5 Euro per day at the centre.

What else the town offers: Moulay itself is very small, just a little village but 20km down the coast is the bustling town of Essaouira which is worth a visit for it’s cheap and tasty street food and bazaars and for Game of Thrones fans it was used as the set for some of The Dragon Queen’s scenes in Slavers Bay.

what else to bring: We will as always being doing plenty of video coaching sessions, so be sure to bring a BIG USB to take home all of your footage.  The house does have wifi but the internet here is slow, good enough for basic emails but if your require decent speeds you can collect sim cards at the airport from INWI (they give them away for free) and you can top up with 10 Euro giving you 9GB of internet.

Temp: Although the air temperature is hot the sea is a bit chilly so a summer suit either full or shorty.

Average cost of a beer: As a Muslim country, Morocco is not the place for a boozy night out and the cost of alcohol here reflects that! If you do want the option of a drink in the evening grab a bottle or two of duty free at the airport.

Average cost of a steak dinner: All dinners are included in the package, but if you did venture to Essaouira for the night you can get street food, steak baguettes for around £1.50 or a three course meal for about £5!

1 week kit/accom: €580

Insurance: Insurance: We recommend VDWS insurance for all of our clinics, they charge an annul premium of 39 Euro and cover you worldwide for windsurfing and other sports and are totally worth it! Click here for more....
